The best answer to that would be that those who don't are missing out big time on a huge market. You need list any personal information in your online ad that might compromise your safety. You list your phone number and/or email address. You accept the calls that come in and answer your emails. You decide whether the caller or emailer is a potential buyer and run the entire show yourself.
Prior to the advent of the internet, the options were limited for car sellers. You could park your car in your driveway with a “For Sale” sign on it, or you could put a sign on the back window and drive it around and hope for the best.
Those with a few bucks could place a small ad in the local newspaper or one of those specialty used car magazines. This involved preparation as such publications have deadlines every week where they accept ads to run for the next week. These people also had to be wordsmiths in order to get pertinent information out there in 30 words or less.
You also could have used your ‘old' car toward the down payment of your newer car, if you were buying one. Or you could have sold it outright to the dealer which would have gotten you about the same money or less as if you had taken it to a pawn shop.
The internet offers smashing opportunities to anyone wishing to sell an item, vehicles included. Online ads will not limit the seller to four lines of copy. You could write a book on your car if that's what you wanted to do. You can describe the vehicle in detail as to its condition, repair records, driving history and anything else you find pertinent and will generate excitement to those in the market for a car.
You will, of course, include photographs of your car in the online ad, but you can still describe the gorgeous color of the car and the fine leather interior. You need to also include contact information, mileage and the selling price.
Most sites allow one photograph, many will allow more. Whatever, you want the car to be sparkling clean before you snap that picture and take those shots in sunlight rather than shade for best results. If the site allows you more than one picture, take pictures from the angles that clearly show the car's condition.
You do not have to concern yourself with publishing deadlines. You can download your ad in the morning and receive calls immediately. You may sell your car before your newspaper ad would have even run.
Those low-tech newspapers ads can be expensive as well, particularly if you include a detailed description of the car. Online car ads are cheap and give you lots of room for a detailed description. Some sites even offer free ad space. Many will guarantee you a sale or refund your money, and others will run your ad continuously until a sale is made.
Check out many sites before selecting the one you will use. Go online yourself and perform a vehicle search to see how easy the site is to navigate. Ask around to find someone who has actually put their car up for sale on the internet. A word from someone with real experience is the best kind of information you can get.
