Nothing Is As Important As The Safety Of Your Child

As any parent knows, keeping their child safe is a fundamental duty of parenthood, and danger comes in many forms. Activities and articles that seem innocent and harmless can, when introduced to the curiosity and inventiveness of a young child, become risky to the point of dangerous. Parents know that they need to be on their guard during their child's every waking moment in order to make sure that they stay safe.

This care for safety must be in place when the parents entrust their child to others also. There can be informal arrangements made on a temporary basis to care for a child. This can be safe assuming the parents know well the individual that is doing the babysitting. Still, no one cares for a child's safety as vehemently as his parents.

While professional daycare centers cannot promise to provide an equivalent amount of love and affection to a parent in a child's life, a high-quality, regulated and licensed center can provide safety above all else. This claim can be backed up by licensing regulations that a daycare center must meet in order to stay open. Standards for paint, carpet, furniture, play equipment and toys must be adhered to if a daycare center hopes to stay in business. Close attention is paid to cleanliness and sanitation, security and supervision. The safety of their young charges is a top priority.

The security measures at a licensed day care center are paramount in providing for the children's safety. Parents must give the facility a list of persons authorized to pick up their child from the center and very often a code is required to change any information on that list if given over the telephone. This is particularly useful in the case of a custody dispute or court order. Most day care centers are required to lock their doors during operating hours and codes are provided for authorized persons to use to enter the facility. Should someone unknown to the day care center arrive to pick up a child, the center will thoroughly check all the records they have on the child and are apt to call parents to get their permission to release the child. To be even more secure, a picture ID is often required.

Close supervision is a must at a day care center for as everyone knows, children are bloody geniuses when it comes to finding trouble, even if danger seems very remote. With a cadre of trained, responsible individuals in place to oversee the children's play and interaction, the risk of harm is greatly lessened. Just by making certain there is someone keeping an eye on the little ones at all times, a day care facility is able to substantially reduce the risk of injury to its little imps.

Sanitation is also a measure that is not always considered when parents think of safety. As we have all heard from various news sources in recent months, people, especially children, do not wash their hands frequently enough. And frequent hand washing is considered the easiest and most effective method to stop the spread of communicable disease. At a licensed daycare center, kids are taught to wash at specific intervals - such as prior to eating and after outdoor play - and also after toileting, sneezing, and coughing. During cold and flu season, hand washing frequency increases as a simple method of deterrent.

Parents are, in most cases, the best defense against risk and danger to their own children. This only makes sense, since children are dearest and most precious to their own parents. But when a parent cannot be there to guard their child against injury or harm, it is vital that a parent be able to rely on a substitute caregiver to provide for the child's safety. A qualified, licensed daycare center can offer this security to children, and peace of mind to their parents.
