If there is one character that has captured the hearts and imaginations of people worldwide, it is Harry Potter. Not surprisingly enough, the character is also one of the more famous choices when it comes to Halloween and costume choices. Choosing and finding a Harry Potter costume is actually a piece-of-cake. In fact, you can easily get one off the rack when Halloween nears.
If you do not want a typical, run-of-the-mill Harry Potter costume or if you want to go to a costume party as someone else in the story, you can get ideas for these costumes online or from the movies. There are many ways for you to create a Harry Potter costume or one that depicts a friend or foe in the story. All you need is your imagination, some ingenuity, a seamstress you can trust and some make-up skills.
For those who wish to create a Harry Potter costume that depicts them as the main character, you will need the two things that make Harry recognizable and that are his glasses and his scar. The scar is easy enough to make since you can simply draw the zig-zag design on your forehead with the use of make-up. The glasses are also very easy to find since round spectacles are also common enough.
For other characters, you can choose to create your own costumes or you can buy ready-made ones that can be found in costume shops everywhere. Professor McGonagall is easy enough to emulate since all you need is a black floor length dress, a black toga or robe, spectacles, and hair tied up in a bun. Dumbledore is somewhat difficult to make a costume for since you will need long, white hair and a beard and moustache to complete any costume you create with this character in mind.
Other Harry Potter costume choices that are easy to put together include those that depict his best friends, Hermione and Ron. For Hermione, you will need to have a Gryffindor coat, her signature wavy-brown locks and her full-lips. For Ron, the short red hair, a broken wand and the Gryffindor coat should do the trick. Luna Lovegood is also easy enough to copy and make a costume for, with her pale complexion easily copied using make-up and her long, blonde, wispy hair copied with the use of a wig.
There are a few very challenging characters from the story that you can also choose to create or buy a costume of. One character that may be very challenging to create is Voldemort. The noseless face and the bald head may be a bit difficult to copy but can be done with the help of a full face mask or prosthetics.
Some of the professors of Hogwarts can also be pretty challenging to create costumes of, like Alastor Moody and Professor Quirrell, to mention a couple. The former requires a prosthetic, bulging eye that moves around and can be worn like an eye patch. The latter requires a turban be worn around the head and a brown suit with a robe worn with it to complete the look.
