Garden dcor can make a difference to any backyard landscape. Typically, decoration varies depending on the garden type the gardener tries to cultivate . The most common garden types are renaissance gardens, English gardens, cottage gardens, kitchen garden, rock gardens, oriental gardens and residential gardens.

Gardens inspired by the grandeur of the renaissance era, just like the Italian renaissance garden, use terrace, topiary, statuary, hedge, bosquet, parterre, sylvan theater, pergola and pavilion as dcor. While trees, shrubs and flowers are arranged in a formal geometric pattern and form. One great example is a labyrinth.

English gardens on the other hand, are largely inspired by Italian renaissance garden design. However, it is less formal and symmetrical. Likewise, the design also draws inspiration from the classical Chinese gardens. As a result of these influences, English garden dcor make use of miniature Gothic ruins, classical shrines, fountains and other scenic architectural design; and incorporated it with famous Chinese dcor like real or man-made lakes, bridges, softly trimmed lawns, trees and garden.

Cottage garden dcor, on the contrary make use of antique looking rustic paths, arbors, and fences. Plants used in a Cottage garden are not merely decorative but also, includes edible plants such as vegetables and fruit trees. Moreover, garden plants like rose, climbing plants, hedge plants, flowers, fruits and herbs are densely planted without much regard to order.

The kitchen garden, on the other hand , is a unique garden design since it is basically not a decorative garden. It is normally made up of organized plots, divided into different herbal and vegetable bed. The garden may, also, be enclosed by fence.

Rock gardens, also, known as Alpine gardens use rock as main garden dcor instead of flowers or plants. Basically, rocks are piled aesthetically to imitate the natural landscape of bedrocks. Nonetheless, bonsais may be incorporated in this garden type as seen on Zen gardens.

Another garden style is the oriental garden. Oriental gardens are usual adorned with lantern, unique stones, bonsai, bridges, calligraphy and miniature temples . Man-made lakes, ponds and falls are also important dcor for this type of garden. In addition, they use myriads of seasonal flowers and trees arranged in imitation of the harmony apparent on natural landscape. Chinese garden, a famous oriental design, influenced other oriental gardens like Japanese and Korean garden.

In the present day, urban living has, also, shaped a new garden type. This is the contemporary garden which features garden on courtyard, on a balcony, in window boxes, or on a patio. This kind of garden design has adapted to the limited spaces of city houses. The usual furnishings of contemporary gardens are potted dwarf flowers and plants that grow tidily upward and are arranged in an almost hedge-like pattern.

Nonetheless, garden dcor need not to strictly follow a singular garden type. Several garden types can be incorporated to create unique garden, likewise, to adapt to small spaces. All together, the garden dcor must simply balance and contemplate the garden type and not be the sole centerpiece or else, there should never be a garden, in the first place.
