Are there some old monochrome baby photographs in your family album of your grandparents or great grandparents when they were babies? Most families have a couple of and they are still just as cherished by the grandkids like they were by the mothers and fathers that had them taken. Baby pictures have a particular appeal to them like no other photos that are taken and every parent wants to freeze frame that adorable little face over time so they will always be in a position to look at it and remember what their child was like when they were very young.

Despite the fact that you will probably take at least some photos when the infant is only days old or even hours old, these might not be the greatest pictures because let's face it, not all newborns are that pretty at the outset. The best photographs usually come at a few months of age after the baby starts to smile at things and they have taken on their own little personality. This is when most parents will visit a photography studio or nowadays, taking your own photos with a camera and printing some 8x10s yourself is the one other option.

If you do take the newborn child to a professional photographer, it doesn't always mean you have to dress them up so much. Occasionally a more casual outfit with a cap or bonnet with their name embroidered or printed on it can make some of the more natural, most gorgeous looking photos. A casual outfit and setting can instruct your child the way it looks most of the time and these can be the memories that you actually want to capture the most. Casual photos are very fashionable these days, now and again more so than the formal ones.

You should also consider that when you plan to take the baby to a professional photographer or a picture studio, the newborn child might pick that particular day to want to cry and maybe even scream it's take off! An infant has been recognized to frequently refuse to cooperate at all when you like them to the most. Many moms and dads have paid good money for photos that didn't turn out quite the way they wanted. If you take your own photos in your home, you may be ready when the baby is ready and stand a much better prospect of getting those very cute and creative shots you really want to take.

Always try to have a digital copy of your favorite photos, particularly those of your babies as they cannot be replaced if you have a fire or flood at your house. Keep the copy in a safe place somewhere except that your home so you will have it just in case you ever did lose your originals for whatever reason. Even professional studios will make you a digital copy occasionally ask any for one or if it comes with the picture package that you opt to buy from them. Always ask about that alternative before you choose a photographer or studio.
