Three Temptations In The Desert Of Life

I find it interesting that right after the reunion with God, Jesus was tempted by Satan. He came to Jesus after the 40 days and 40 nights thinking he was hungry and offers him something to eat, then suggest that Jesus turn a stone into bread to satisfy His desire to eat. Jesus responds by saying, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

In Jesus Shoes

If I would have been in Jesus shoes I would be looking for the biggest juiciest meal I could lay my tongue upon. Obviously you can see I would not have made the same choice Jesus did. In the past when tempted by just about anything I jump on the band wagon and indulge myself to filling that desire. I relate this in how the many decisions I have made in life. My decisions have not been very wise, from my first beer, first cigarette and overeating, these substances all had their foundation in the temptation of Satan's and his demons. Unlike Jesus I did not resist. In reality I became a disciple of Satan in these specific areas of my life by not resisting the temptation.

Spiritual Warfare

The spiritual warfare of Jesus vs Satan came alive recently when I was reading these same instructions from Jesus. I realized that Satan's demons were a part of my life and their goal was to kill my spirit, soul and body. I decided if possible, I was not going to let that happen. I took control over these specific demons in my life, and with the help of the spirit of Jesus have cast them out.

The Indoctrination

In my youth I was indoctrinated through peers into the acceptance of three different substances cigarettes, alcohol and coffee. But for sometime I have realized that all three substances are a form of a drug. This created a spiritual battle of trying to stop consuming these substances. With cigarettes, I would see someone smoking and be compelled by a demon to ask for a cigarette from them. When I woke up in the morning I could not exist until I had my first cup of coffee. When we went to dinner on Friday evening I enjoyed a beer.

Realization

I finally realized all of these actions were inspired by demons, satan's warriors. They were preventing me from escaping the bondage of these substances. An understanding also came over me to realize the teachings of Jesus were about casting these demons out of my life just as Jesus did when he refused to accept the spirit of Satan and to seek the spirit of God from the council of the words of life, provided by God.

Overcoming Demons

At this point I wondered to myself what would a life be like without any type of drug in my system. I knew I wanted to find out so in the morning when I would wake up my demons insisting that I make coffee reminding me of the taste and all of the good things that I enjoyed about the coffee. But I was able to overcome this temptation because the motive was the death and destruction of my spirit. I wanted to experience life as God intended being drugged.

After making the decision to cast out Satan's demons from abiding in my life, they came at me, and reminded me of how much I enjoyed each of them. But realizing their goal was to rob me from life made it much easier to deal with. They had already robbed me of so many years of life they were not going to have their way any longer.

Perspective

The war between Jesus and Satan really puts things into perspective. At the same time It also came to light that Jesus casted demons out of the people He healed. I believe this is the foundation of His ministry to remove sins by casting out demons from the people that believe in Him.

Therefore I find this act in the desert is a symbol as well as a path of action to take in order to over come Satan and his demons in our own lives.
