There are not many people that will argue the elegance a wooden floor brings into a home. It could be any color stain, wood grain and it is a reflection of the homeowners sense of style. A hardwood floor is the most requested home addition by homebuyers. To make an already beautiful floor spectacular, many homeowners decide to install wood floor inlays.

A wood floor inlay is not to be confused with a parquet floor. A parquet floor is a hardwood floor that has a repeating pattern through the entire floor. A wood floor inlay can be one or two things. It is either a medallion that is inlaid in the wood flooring, placed in the center of the room. Or it can be a border that goes around the perimeter of the room. The border is usually a repeating pattern that is no more than a few inches wide. In a large room, some homeowners or business owners have had both, a medallion and boarder inlay installed. Either of these additions will add an eye catching focal point into any room.

Installing a wood floor inlay is something that can be done in existing wood flooring or in new to be installed wood flooring. When looking to install a wood floor inlay, consult a professional. To install a wood floor inlay, a portion of the floor will have to be cut. If an inexperienced self installer attempts to install an inlay, the results could be disastrous and very costly to repair. An experienced wood floor installer would be able to install a wooden floor inlay in new or existing wood flooring.

When considering installing a wood floor inlay, a homeowner has an option of selecting a medallion or boarder that has been done or a unique design can be created. When thinking of a unique design for a medallion or border, a homeowner has should consider an image that is unique to their family or something that is important to them. Once the image has been created, if the homeowner can't draw the image or have a copy of the image for the professional, it should be clearly communicated so that it can be drawn and cut to be put into the floor.

Having a professional install a wood floor inlay is a smart move for a homeowner for many reasons. Because an existing floor can have an inlay added, a professional can evaluate the flooring to make sure it can withstand the process of installation. A border inlay can be labor intensive, a detailed medallion can be too. With a trained, certified professional installing the floor inlay, a homeowner can be sure it is being installed properly.
